WinRAR: The Eternal Unpatched Menace

Same story, different day, as the Silent Lynx threat group targets government organisations across the CIS by exploiting a WinRAR vulnerability to drop reverse shells. One would hope state bodies would manage their basic archivers, yet public officials are apparently still caught out by archiver exploits. Protecting ourselves demands nothing less than patching ancient WinRAR vulnerabilities before foreign actors pop shells on sensitive machines. Why do we even bother preaching patch management when archiving utilities continue to bring down governments.
