The Full Story
Why do we even bother using computers when even extracting a simple file archive has become a critical security risk? This latest heap-based buffer overflow, tracked as CVE-2026-14266, threatens anyone foolish enough to open a maliciously crafted XZ file using 7-Zip. Guarding our networks from this particular flavor of disaster means we must chase down every single user and force them to update their archiving software immediately. Of course, convincing them to update a utility they forgot existed is always a joy, but the alternative is letting attackers run wild on our systems.
