It is just another lovely Tuesday in IT as the Nova ransomware gang targets the Kedah State Government in Malaysia. The extortionists claim to have exfiltrated sensitive databases and are proudly displaying file structures and screenshots to force negotiations. This digital headache affects the state government and its citizens, whose data is now bargaining chip material. To protect our own networks from similar extortion, we are left with the tedious chore of securing our systems and actually monitoring database access before the inevitable happens.
