Our friends in the cybersecurity research world have uncovered Showboat, a shiny new Linux malware package featuring a SOCKS5 proxy backdoor. This elegant bit of espionage has been quietly targeting a telecommunications provider in the Middle East for some time now. To protect our own infrastructure from this nautical disaster, we should probably start monitoring our Linux servers occasionally rather than blindly assuming they are inherently impervious to bad actors.
