The Full Story
We are treated to yet another unpatchable hardware disaster with the 'usbliter8' exploit breaking the secure boot chain on Apple A12 and A13 chips. Because this flaw resides deep inside the write-only SecureROM, no amount of frantic software patching is going to rescue these compromised devices. Protecting ourselves from this hardware headache requires strict physical control over the affected devices, as attackers need USB access to work their magic. Or, in what is surely music to Apple's ears, we could just throw them away and buy newer, expensive hardware.
